Gamified popups
Gamified popups trade a shopper's email for a chance to win something, instead of just asking for it. Here's what the category covers, and exactly what Profiter ships.
The idea
A static email popup makes one move: give us your address, get 10% off. A shopper has nothing to do but decide yes or no. A gamified popup — a spin wheel, a scratch card, a mystery box — puts a small game in front of that decision. The shopper spins, scratches, or taps first, and the reward feels earned rather than requested.
What Profiter ships
"Gamified popup" covers more than wheels — scratch cards and mystery boxes are common mechanics on the Shopify App Store. Profiter builds one of them, a spin-to-win wheel, with six themes and six prize types to configure. It doesn't offer scratch cards or other mechanics today.

Fairness
A gamified popup only feels fair if the game is fair. Our server decides the prize before the wheel starts easing toward it, so there's nothing in the browser for a shopper to inspect or force.
The part that actually matters
A wheel that hands out steeper discounts will always get more spins. Profiter measures money instead: a holdout group never sees the wheel, so the profit number you see is checked against shoppers who bought without it.
A real holdout group, bucketed with a deterministic FNV-1a hash, never sees the wheel, giving you a stable baseline to measure against.
Enter your margin and shipping cost once. See profit per visitor for wheel shoppers against the holdout.
Set the odds and inventory caps per prize. Profiter even provides automated warnings if your no-win slice share drops below 20% or a jackpot prize is set above a 1.5% chance.
Everything above ships in Profiter today. Explore the full feature list or watch the wheel itself before you install.
Questions
A spin-to-win wheel is a common example of a gamified activity in e-commerce. Instead of a static form that just says 'Enter your email for 10% off,' a spin wheel like Profiter's offers a chance to win one of several prizes. The shopper plays a short game first, which makes the reward feel earned and increases engagement.
They can be, but effectiveness should be measured in profit, not just email signups. Profiter measures the real impact by holding back a portion of traffic as a control group. This lets you compare the profit per visitor for shoppers who saw the wheel against those who didn't, ensuring your discounts are driving incremental profit.
A fair gamified popup determines the prize on the server, not in the shopper's browser. Profiter picks every winning prize using a cryptographically secure pseudo-random number generator (CSPRNG) on our server before the wheel even starts spinning. This prevents shoppers from inspecting the code to find or force a winning outcome.
They can, which is why asset size is critical. Profiter is designed to be lightweight, loading only two files that total 15,412 bytes (15.4 KB) gzipped. For comparison, the most-reviewed competitor (Wheelify) loads 11 files totaling 94,236 bytes (94.2 KB) gzipped, as measured in July 2026. This focus on performance is maintained by a strict 21 KB JavaScript budget in our development process.
